Italian media have singled out defender Stefan de Vrij and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu as Inter’s best performers in their Champions League win over Barcelona.

The pair each received 7.5/10 scores for their displays in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the highest of any Nerazzurri player.

At the heart of defense, de Vrij came in after three consecutive matches where he was benched for Francesco Acerbi and showed little rust as he won the physical battle against striker Robert Lewandowski and showed great composure to barely let the Pole get a shot away.

Meanwhile, Calhanoglu grew into the game in a deeper role despite a few risky passes that turned over possession, and his well-struck effort towards the end of the first half proved to be the telling contribution as it found the back of the net for the match’s only goal.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta criticize forward Joaquin Correa for not contributing much in attack, giving the Argentine just a 5/10 score.
