Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi all but put the rumours and speculation about his future to bed with yesterday evening’s 1-0 Champions League win over Barcelona.

This is the view of today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who argue that the coach’s position is back to being as secure as ever following his most difficult period at the helm.

While there had never been any sort of indications that a change in coach was close at hand for Inter in recent weeks, there was a sense that as the team’s form got worse and worse the club could be forced into making a difficult decision.

The stylistic issues that were manifesting on the pitch, particularly relating to defensive compactness and concentration, were traced back to the coach first and foremost.

Accordingly, the big question around Inzaghi was whether the former Lazio coach could fix exactly these issues.

Against Barcelona, the Nerazzurri looked like a team who had now troubles whatsoever with their defensive shape, and the lapses in focus that have cost the team in recent matches never appeared.

Now, Inzaghi looks to have not just bought himself a bit more time, but dramatically reasserted his control over this team.
