Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli believes that the Nerazzurri can start to think about qualifying for the Champions League knockout rounds again after beating Barcelona on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the former striker argued that the Nerazzurri’s qualification campaign is back on track.

Things did not look particularly hopeful for Inter heading into Tuesday’s match as far as the Champions League is concerned.

A loss to Bayern Munich on the opening day meant that the Nerazzurri faced even more of an uphill climb to get out of their group than when the group stage was drawn.

This was mitigated somewhat by the fact that Inter managed to beat Viktoria Plzen on the second matchday, but not by much.

However, three more points against much tougher opposition in the form of the Blaugranas means that things look much different for the Nerazzurri.

“This win is one that allows Inter to start to dream again,” Altobelli said, “after this win Inzaghi’s team is back in the running in a group where they had looked to be hopeless.”

He then argued that “Napoli, Bayern, and Real Madrid are the strongest teams in Europe today.
