Simone Inzaghi appears to have rejuvenated the defensive trio of Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij in the game against Barcelona, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Inter coach managed to get a performance out of his three first-choice defenders that resembled last season.

They were Inter’s best feature last season but this year, the trio have come in for a lot of criticism.

Inter have conceded a lot more goals than normal but they got a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League and looked much more assured.

The difference seemed to be that Inter played with a much deeper back line to protect Andre Onana.

This is a tactic that was commonly used by Antonio Conte in big games during the Scudetto-winning season.

It appeared to give the three defenders more confidence.
