Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio feels that at the moment, the Nerazzurri have little margin for error.
Speaking to InterTV after the team’s Serie A win over Sassuolo, the 34-year-old emphasized that the team must emphasize staying switched on, and also praised the team’s approach against the Neroverdi.
Inter had a bit of a mix-up at the back to allow Sassuolo to score during the second half of this afternoon’s match.
However, other than being punished for that moment, the Nerazzurri’s display was largely very composed and effective defensively.
After some reason matches in which defensive lapses have seen the team begin the season with a less-than-stellar defensive record, D’Ambrosio feels that the team are now taking the right approach to matches.
Now, having won two in a row between the Champions League and Serie A, the sense is that if the Nerazzurri can avoid simple errors, then they will be rewarded.
D’Ambrosio said that “The way we take to the pitch and the approach has changed.”
“I think this positive approach has been seen in the last two matches,” he continued.
“It’s always important to win, but it’s even more important when you know that you can’t afford to make mistakes.”
“We’ve dropped a lot of points, there’s little room for error,” he added.
D’Ambrosio said of this afternoon’s match that “We managed to attack, we kept hold of the ball, and in the end we took home the three points.”
“There was a need for certainties, this team had the best defense in the league for a long time,” the 34-year-old noted.
“I think it’s the right decision not to always try marking one-on-one, we play every three days,” he continued, “so we often use the same players and not everyone is in optimal condition.”
“It’s important to press more intelligently and pick up the pace when we can, we have to dictate the tempo.”
