Inter defender Francesco Acerbi feels that both of the team’s main goalkeepers give the team security defensively.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo, the 34-year-old stressed that he feels comfortable playing in front of either Samir Handanovic or Andre Onana.
The alternation between Handanovic and Onana has become something of a theme of the early part of Inter’s season.
Handanovic is the captain and has provided the team with a consistent presence in goal for a decade, whilst Onana is the 37-year-old’s long-term replacement and has impressed with the chances he’s been given.
This evening, Onana makes his first start in the league after having started all three of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League matches.
The team have had to make adjustments between playing in front of the two goalkeepers, who have distinct styles and personalities.
For his part, however, Acerbi feels secure no matter who is in goal behind him.
“Handanovic is an absolute point of reference for the whole team, there’s nothing more to say,” the defender said.
“Onana is also an excellent goalkeeper,” he went on.
“Whichever of them starts gives the team a sense of security and that’s the most important thing,” Acerbi stressed.
