Inter defender Francesco Acerbi believes that the Nerrazzurri must build on their win over Barcelona during the week.

Speaking to InterTV ahead of the team’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo this evening, the 34-year-old stressed that this evening’s match will be a difficult one, and that the team have to treat Tuesday’s Champions League victory as a starting point.

Inter got a massive result in the context of their season in the form of a 1-0 win over Barcelona, but it did nothing to help them in the league table.

Now, the Nerazzurri return to Serie A action, and will be hoping that they can secure three points to begin the process of trying to catch up at the top end of the league.

It will not be a straightforward match by any stretch of the imagination, but the team will have the confidence that comes from victory against Barcelona behind them.

“The match against the Blaugranas gave us confidence,” Acerbi said, “but we know we haven’t done anything yet.”

“It was an important win that gave us confidence after a difficult period,” he continued.

“The match against Barcelona can’t be treated as a point of arrival, it is only a starting point.”

“Above all, we must find consistency in results,” the 34-year-old stressed.

Of this evening’s opposition, his old team Sassuolo, Acerbi said that “They’re a team who haven’t conceded a goal in five out of eight matches they’ve played, they play good football even if some of the players have changed.”

“They’re dynamic and difficult to face, but we come here with humility to win, which is the main thing.”

“And then we have our own qualities, we’re a strong team,” the defender emphasized.

Asked how he intends to try and keep the Neroverdi’s attackers quiet, Acerbi replied that “Like every game, our role demands that we put in maximum application, being careful to limit the attackers.”

“But everyone is needed,” he said continued, “because the defensive phase as with the attacking one has to be done with eleven men.”
