Inter striker Edin Dzeko feels that his teammate Lautaro Martinez is a massively important part of the team whether he scores or not.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Bosnian gave his thoughts on the importance of everyone contributing whether or not they start or not.

Dzeko was Inter’s match-winner against the Neroverdi, with his brace enough to overcome the home side’s solitary goal.

Martinez, by contrast, was not able to find the back of the net as he passed up a number of decent chances.

However, both strikers put in a major shift trying to help the team up the pitch as well as defensively as they always do.

For Dzeko, there is no question about his strike partner on the day’s contribution to the team as a whole, no matter who does or doesn’t get on the scoresheet.

Of Martinez, he said that “He’s important for the team, he’s a guy who plays for the team.”

“We as forwards are used to difficulties, but it’s enough when one of your teammate is able to find the goal and win.”

“Even today the goalkeeper made a splendid save,” he noted of Martinez’s header which was saved by Neroverdi keeper Andrea Caonsigli.

“We have to keep going like this, maybe the goal will come when it’s least expected.

“Everyone has to contribute, at Inter it doesn’t always matter whether you start or not, when you come on you have to give it your all,” Dzeko said.

He then noted that “Lukaku and I are different players, maybe I tend to drop deeper more, he attacks the space in behind.”

“Last season we played well, but we lost our on the Scudetto,” he continued.

Dzeko acknowledged that “Today was not our best game, but before the match we said that we had to take it home.”

Of his hundredth goal in Serie A, the striker said “It was fortunate as it was able to help the team.”

Asked if he thinks that the team turned a corner by beating Barcelona over the week, Dzeko replied “Let’s hope so because the schedule is difficult, certainly after Barcelona we wanted to prove ourselves in the league because we haven’t been doing well lately.”

“We’re a great team where there aren’t just eleven players, and everyone is important.”
