Inter captain Samir Handanovic roused his teammates with a speech before their win against Sassuolo despite the fact that he did not start the match.
This according to Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi, who reported after the match on his Twitter that the Nerazzurri captain spoke with the entire squad prior to the 2-1 victory.
Handanovic was left out of the starting eleven in the league for the first time this season.
Andre Onana started in his place, with the Cameroonian speculated by many to be ready to take over the starting spot on a permanent basis.
However, the captain remains as influential in the dressing room.
According to Barzaghi, the 37-year-old made a point to speak with the entire squad prior to the match to emphasize the importance of the match.
Even though Handanovic did not get out onto the pitch as a goalkeeper, he remained in his role of team captain.
Barzaghi reported, “Before the match, Handanovic gave a captain’s speech to the whole team asking them to win.”
