Sassuolo coach Alessio Dionisi feels that his team would have deserved a draw from their Serie A clash with Inter yesterday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the coach suggested that a draw would have been a fair scoreline, and also argued that his team were hard done by that a foul was not given in the buildup to the Nerazzurri’s first goal.

Sassuolo certainly didn’t make things easy for Inter, who had to struggle and dig in their heels at time.

However, at the end of the match the Nerazzurri managed to take all three points, whilst the Neroverdi were unrewarded for their efforts.

Based on what Dionisi saw on the pitch, the Sassuolo coach felt that his team could have gotten more out of the match.

“I’m sorry because we played evenly for seventy minutes,” he said. “Inter didn’t deserve to win, we both did a lot to try to win – the fairest result would have been a draw.”

“They won based on their individual players,” he continued, “in the end we came into it a little tired and not very lucid, this is our regret.”

“We barely conceded any chances in the first seventy minutes and hardly ever suffered,” he continued.

“We could take advantage of the opportunity of Inter having to play more matches than us,” Dionisi said, “sometimes the team with the most top individual players ends up winning.”

Of the moments leading up to Inter’s first goal, Dionisi said that “I don’t like talking about refereeing decisions after the match, but usually if one player jumps and another interferes with him, you never blow the whistle for the player who jumps.”

“I’ve never seen that happen,” he added, “but there’s always a first time.”
