Henrikh Mkhitaryan showed that he can be the perfect midfield wildcard for Inter with his second half display against Sassuolo.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who praise the Armenian for his impact as a substitute against the Neroverdi.

Mkhitaryan came on at halftime for Kristjan Asllani, with the 33-year-old turned to to try and assert some control and calmness in midfield against a Sassuolo midfield that was trying to press the Nerazzurri out of the match.

The former Roma midfielder showed exactly why he was signed in the summer, for his versatility and experience, in his 45 or so minutes on the pitch.

The Armenian had already impressed in midweek against Barcelona, but against Sassuolo he was even better.

Mkhitaryan kept it simple when he had to but also found some more expansive passes to control the tempo for the Nerazzurri.

Moreover, the Armenian assisted his old Roma teammate Edin Dzeko for Inter’s winner, capping off a display that showed how important he can be for the Nerazzurri.
