Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has appealed for the return of the iconic shirt that he wore during the 1982 World Cup final.

Speaking to Italian news service ANSA, via FCInter1908, Altobelli asked that whoever stole the Italian national team shirt from a friend of his please return it.

Altobelli was among the Italian national team squad that won the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.

The former Inter striker was on the pitch as Italy beat Germany to win the trophy, and scored the Azzurri’s third goal in a 3-1 win.

Naturally, the former striker’s shirt has a high level of collectability, and as he explained, he had given it to a friend as a gift.

However, the shirt was stolen from a friend who was carrying it in a bag on a train, and Altobelli is hoping that whoever stole the bag containing the shirt will hear his message and decide to give it back.

“The shirt I wore in the World Cup final was stolen from a lawyer, my dear friend,” he explained.

“I ask whoever found it to return it,” the former striker continued.

“It’s a precious memory for me, but above all I hope my friend can get it back, because he is desperate,” he continued, “he’s torn up about it, even thinking that he could have unintentionally done me wrong.”

“The fear is that whoever took that bag didn’t realize that it also contained the Azzurri shirt,” Altobelli explained.

“But if you understand what it is, please listen to your conscience.”
