Edin Dzeko could be tried out in a starting role alongside Romelu Lukaku when the Belgian returns from injury given Lautaro Martinez’s poor form in front of goal.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that there is a very real chance of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi testing out a partnership of Dzeko and Lukaku.
Lukaku has now been out for over a month with a thigh injury, which has left the other forwards in the team to try and make up for his absence.
Martinez has not been on target in eight matches for the Nerazzurri now, whereas Dzeko has once again proved his reliability in front of goal with his match-winning brace against Sassuolo.
Inzaghi could therefore decide to see how Dzeko and Lukaku are to work together when the Belgian is finally back.
The coach wants to get the best out of his entire squad, and rely on the players who are most in-form, and so this could lead him to trying out an unorthodox attacking duo of Dzeko and Lukaku.
