Sampdoria coach and legendary former Inter and Lazio midfielder Dejan Stankovic feels that even though the European treble he won with Inter came more than a decade ago, it still feels almost recent to him.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Serb looked back on one of his greatest accomplishments as a player now that he is returning to Serie A as a coach.

Stankovich has replaced Marco Giampaolo as head coach of Sampdoria, and the 44-year-old is someone who already has a long history in Serie A from his playing days.

As a player, the Serb helped Inter to win the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League during the 2009-10 season.

Much time has passed for both the Nerazzurri and for Stankovic during the ensuing twelve years, but it is nevertheless something that feels almost recent to the coach.

“It’s been twelve years but the memories are still fresh,” he said.

“With Thiago I was a teammate in the midfield, I wish him the best, he’s a friend, a brother,” he said of former Nerazzurri midfielder Thiago Motta, who he faced as a coach in yesterday’s Serie A clash with Bologna.
