Legendary former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano was not convinced by the Nerazzurri’s performance against Sassuolo on Saturday.
Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, Vieri argued that even though the Nerazzurri won that match, they did not play at the level that they had at their best last season.
Inter got an important win by beating Sassuolo, having lost their previous two in the league and absolutely desperate to get back to winning ways.
The Nerazzurri needed a fairly gritty and defensively resolute performance, and a couple well-timed goals from Edin Dzeko, to come out of the Mapei Stadium with three points.
For Cassano’s part, though, he feels that this will not be enough in the long term.
The former forward feels that this kind of more defensive performance is not sustainable to get the kinds of results that the Nerazzurri are trying to achieve.
“Inter won a game they didn’t deserve to, not playing particularly well,” he argued.
“They went ahead, Sassuolo did well throughout the game, they created many chances,” he continued.
“They played with ideas, intensity, they had the game in hand,” Cassano argued of the Nerazzurri.
“I was even convinced that they could win it after the equalizing goal,” he added, “and then Mhkitaryan decided it with a bit of great play on the left.”
Cassano’s view is that “Right now they need to take as many points as possible.”
“I was expecting a different kind of Inter performance, although that’s how it is between two matches against Barcelona.”
“They expended a lot of effort then.”
He said that “I want to see Inter play real football though, because they have a great team.”
“On Sunday I expect to see a different Inter with a great performance, playing real football,” Cassano predicted. “They have to get back to playing like last season.”
