Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels that his goal against Barcelona in a 3-3 Champions League draw was important for him in his situation.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 28-year-old admitted that he hasn’t been having the easiest time at the Nerazzurri, and noted that the goal gave him a lot of confidence and positivity.

Gosens has not managed to nail down a starting spot for himself on the left after Ivan Perisic left Inter in the summer, as many had expected.

The German’s lack of regular playing time has been attributed to a lack of fitness, of form, of confidence, and of tactical fit among other things.

However, the former Atalanta wingback’s quality has never been in doubt, and there has been a sense that he only needs the chance to show it.

Coming on in the second half against the Blaugranas, Gosens did just that with his well-timed run and smart finish for the final goal in a rollercoaster of a match.

“Coming on and scoring such an important goal for the team feels great,” he said.

“I’m also struggling a bit in my current situation, so I’m happy with the goal.”

The German continued that “This result has to motivate the team to give even more.”

“We know we’ve hurt a team like Barcelona, this has to encourage us to do even more,” he continued.

Of the match, Gosens reflected that “We saw an absolute Champions League-level match between two teams who both wanted to win the match.”

“Tonight we showed that we have the right spirit to play here at Camp Nou,” he continued, “we’re happy because we bring home an important result.”

“Taking a point from this stadium isn’t for everyone,” Gosens noted, “we played in one of the greatest stadiums in the world.”

He added that “We stayed in the game the whole time, we played like the real Inter, that’s the only way you can get these results.”
