Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that he was always going to get back to scoring sooner or later.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the Nerazzurri’s 3-3 Champions League draw with Barcelona, the Argentine emphasized that sometimes the big goals come in improbable circumstances.

Martinez had gone eight Inter matches without a goal going into the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Barcelona yesterday.

Away at the Camp Nou was hardly the easiest of circumstances in which to find goalscoring form again, but that is exactly what Martinez did.

The 25-year-old not only found the back of the net for the Nerazzurri’s second, but also assisted Robin Gosens for their vital third, the equalizer that clinched the team a point.

Martinez reflected on this, stating that “Sometimes the goals come when you least expect them.”

He continued that “I always try to help the team, and I also assisted Gosens.”

Of the German, Martinez said that “He is an important guy in our dressing room and I hope we keep going along this path.”

Of the match, the Argentine said that “We faced a difficult team at a difficult away ground.”

“We knew that we’d gone through a difficult moment, but the real Inter is back.”

He added that “We’ve just tried to keep working, and also we have a lot of players with great experience who give us a big hand.”

“When we suffer as a team we have to do it all together, starting with the forwards,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s defensive effort.
