Andre Onana looks to have strengthened grip on the starting spot in goal at Inter.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Cameroonian’s style of play with and without the ball has become central to how the Nerazzurri will play going forward.
Onana has now made a total of five starts in all competition, with his first in Serie A coming last weekend against Sassuolo.
The 26-year-old former Ajax keeper has a different sort of presence in goal than captain Samir Handanovic does.
Onana is very vocal with his backline, and seems to have added an injection of energy to the team, whilst he is more proactive in coming off his line and claiming balls into the box than Handanovic typically is.
Moreover, the Cameroonian’s accurate and powerful long kick has already proven to be a useful weapon.
Onana’s long ball to Lautaro Martinez was instrumental in creating Robin Gosens’s late goal in the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Barcelona on Wednesday.
The feeling now is that Onana will be the player who Inter build around for the short- and long-term future in goal.
