Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has said that Nicolo Barella drags the whole team along with him when he is playing well, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport Italia, via FCInternews, Beppe Bergomi assessed Inter’s performance in the Champions League this season.

The Nerazzurri only need to win at home to Viktoria Plzen in their penultimate group game to be assured of a place in the Round of 16 for a second consecutive season.

Beppe Bergomi explained that Inter are the most surprising out of the Italian teams because they had the hardest group to navigate as it has Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

“The biggest surprise is Inter because they are in the most difficult group and they took a good step forward.

“It surprised me. At Camp Nou they played a game with good personality: they knew how to read the moments, they went under and reacted very well but above all they found compactness and team spirit.”

Robin Gosens scored when coming off the bench on Wednesday night against Barcelona and Beppe Bergomi says he saw the Nerazzurri DNA in the celebrations.

“In the embrace to Gosens I saw the Nerazzurri DNA. If they rediscover this compactness they can give themselves great satisfaction, even if I still maintain that this team has an imperfect squad.”

He also talked about the way that Nicolo Barella is able to encourage all of his teammates to play better.

“I was quite critical of Barella for his attitude, but in Barcelona he played a serious game, like a European midfielder. If he is like that he is a player who drags the whole team.”
