Former Juventus and Bologna midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi feels that Inter are showing that they have found themselves again but must still prove this improvement against a direct rival.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marocchi noted that the Nerazzurri have yet to be tested in a head-to-head clash at the top of Serie A.

Inter have lost to the likes of Lazio, AC Milan, Udinese, and Roma so far this season in Serie A.

Consistent victories against teams lower-placed in the table such as this afternoon’s victory over Salernitana are a more positive sign.

The heroics to take four points off of Barcelona in the Champions League also show the quality as well as grit and belief of this Nerazzurri team.

However, if Inter are to haul themselves back into the domestic title race, then they will have to show that they can get the job done against the kinds of teams they haven’t so far.

Asked if he thinks Inter are back, Marocchi replied, “Yes, but they’re still waiting for a match against a top side.”

“Inter have lost all four matches from four against the teams teams ahead of them in the table so far.”

“But looking at how the team are doing, and also looking back to last season’s beautiful team, I think I have to say yes,” he added.

“When the midfield works, also helping in defense, everything becomes easier,” he noted.”

“Consistency is fundamental,” he added. “Three points against Salernitana are as important as against Barcelona.”
