Former Lazio and Napoli midfielder Dario Marcolin feels that the future at Inter is represented by Andre Onana in goal.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, Marcolin stressed the view that while captain Samir Handanovic has a massive legacy with the Nerazzurri, the freshness that Onana injects is vital to the team.

Onana has now started four matches in a row for Inter.

The sense at this stage is that, if the Cameroonin hasn’t already cemented his place as first-choice in goal ahead of Handanovic, he soon will.

The captain remains under contract at least until the end of the season, and the sense is that he’s not quite done just yet.

However, in Marcolin’s view, regardless of the history that the 37-year-old has with the Nerazzurri, with whom he has won the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, the new blood of Onana is necessary.

“Onana is a very good goalkeeper, we’re starting to see that,” he noted.

He went on that “There’s been a lot of talk about the changing of the guard, and while Handanovic is an institution and nobody can take away his leadership, the freshness of Onana has been necessary.”
