Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that the key thing for the team is to keep the momentum of their draw against Barcelona in midweek going.
Speaking to InterTV ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash with Salernitana, the 23-year-old stressed following up on the team’s heroics in the Champions League.
Inter took away from the Camp Nou which means that should they beat either Viktoria Plzen or Bayern Munich in one of their two remaining group stage matches they will be guaranteed a spot in the Champions League knockouts.
It was a massive result and came in circumstances that were anything but easy.
The Nerazzurri showed their mentality and fighting spirit as well as technical quality to take four points against a Barcelona team considered to be one of the strongest in Europe.
This sent an important message after the team’s slumping start to the season.
Now, however, it will be equally important to keep going in the same manner, even if the opposition won’t always be as demanding on paper as Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
“We certainly come here with confidence,” Bastoni said, “getting a result at Camp Nou isn’t easy.”
He continued that “That match gave us a lot of confidence, now we’ll have to do well and repeat it against Salernitana.”
Of the importance of working as a unit, Bastoni said that “The whole team participates in both phases of play, even Dzeko and Lautaro gave us a lot of help in defensive coverage against Barcelona.”
Of his expectations for this evening’s match, he said that “Apart from the opposition, we’re aware that we have to play the game in the best way, with humility.”
“We’re ready to play a good match,” he concluded.
