Inter defender Francesco Acerbi feels that the team did well to beat a tough Salernitana team after the exhausting midweek match against Barcelona.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A victory, the 34-year-old stressed that it had not been a straightforward match by any stretch.

Salernitana are not necessarily the most formidable opposition, but they’ve already shown their quality this season.

The Granata have established a foothold in the midtable in Serie A, and have already managed an impressive draw away to Juventus.

Nevertheless, Inter looked in control and focused to see off the Salerno-based outfit.

Acerbi felt that it was just the kind of performance that the team needed after their frantic 3-3 draw against Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Inter showed that they still have plenty left in the tank and can keep getting results.

“It was a difficult match after Barcelona,” Acerbi said after the match.

“But we had a good approach and had a good match,” he continued.

“The only thing we could have done better was get the second goal early, because in matches like this you can risk ruining all your good work with one mistake.”

Of the difficulties earlier in the season, Acerbi said that “We had one of those moments, but these moments exist in all teams, it’s normal.”

“Then you have to show the strength and intelligence to recover,” he added. “We have to keep going like this.”

Of his acclimation at Inter, Acerbi said that “I settled in from day one thanks to my teammates, they’re fantastic.”

“I feel great,” he continued, “I thank my teammates and the coach, who I already knew.”

“Above all, teammates are the people you need to relate to and sometimes get help from, we’re a group and I’ve found that I’m very happy here.”

“It’s been good being with these guys, because I already knew some of them from the national team,” the 34-year-old noted.

“They welcomed me immediately as if I’d been here for years,” he added, “and then I tried to get on the same wavelength as everyone, which has gone well.”

“As for today, I like playing in the centre best to tell you the truth, although I’m also fine on the left of a back three,” Acerbi added, “I like a role that’s a little more free, of course I’m not at 100% yet and we also had a turbulent week, but I like playing on the left.”

“At my age it takes a little bit more effort,” he admitted, “but I still hold up fine, I’m happy to do it.”

Of his difficult end to life at Lazio, Acerbi said that “I did a month of training alone without a team, but I trained every day.”
