Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that the team are now definitively on the right track after the poor start that they endured to the season.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 25-year-old talked about how the team worked together to get over their early season slump in form.
Inter still have plenty of ground left to make up in the league table after losing four of their opening eight matches in Serie A.
However, two wins on the bounce against Sassuolo and Salernitana have significantly changed the mood within the team.
Now, the feeling is that the Nerazzurri have found the formula and the approach to stay in matches as a team and fight for results.
This did not come easy for the players.
The Nerazzurri needed to digest the difficulties that had plagued them in the early parts of the campaign.
However, Martinez feels that the players have discussed things amongst themselves and found the right balance which can be seen in how they take to the pitch.
“It’s been a perfect week,” he said, “we’re on the right track, we played a great match at Camp Nou and today we had to prove ourselves again.”
“The attitude had to be the same and I think we proved that it was.”
“Maybe in the first few matches we dropped some big points,” Martinez continued, “things didn’t turn out for us, we conceded a lot of goals.”
Martinez noted that “We talked about it, we all came together, and now things are turning around.”
The Argentine said that “Inzaghi has helped me a lot, he always gives me confidence, as with my teammates.”
“I always try to score goals and when I can’t I try to help everyone out anyway,” he noted, “I try to be the first defender, I do all the rest of the work even when I don’t score.”
“Sometimes it is good for us to speak amongst ourselves,” Martinez noted, “we did so and we understood where we were going wrong, and we got to work, now you can see it on the pitch.”
Of equalling Diego Milito’s goal total for Inter, the striker said that “It makes me proud, I work with my head down every day to raise my level and I’m very happy, I dedicate the goal to my wife and to my mother in Argentina, today is Mother’s Day there.”
