Italian journalist Fabio Caressa believes that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi still has some mental hurdles to overcome.

Speaking on Italian news outlet Sky Sport Italia after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A win over Salernitana, Caressa gave the view that Inzaghi is still not fully comfortable with the pressures of coaching a team like Inter.

Inzaghi has proved his ability to get a team like Inter playing the kind of football that he wants them to.

Moreover, the 46-year-old has managed plenty of impressive results and performances against tough opposition since taking over last summer, and won two trophies with the team.

However, there have been some questions over the team mentally, particularly at the start of the current season when their form dropped off.

For Inzaghi’s part, he feels that even after a turnaround in the last couple of weeks, the coach still needs to find the right attitude for his position.

“I take the liberty of saying that there is a problem, a mentality issue,” he said.

“Last season, after the match against the Liverpool, Inzaghi had said that he had not tried to win,” he continued.

Caressa argued that “I understand that he feels that he’s being subject to undeserved accusations, he is an excellent coach.”

“But this story he keeps reiterating in every press conference…” he continued.

“In football, as in all jobs, what you’ve accomplished more matters little,” Caressa argued, “what you do today and what you can do tomorrow are what matter.”

“In my opinion, this is a mentality problem that must be faced and overcome.”
