Inter defeated Salernitana in Match Day 10 of the 2022/2023 Serie A season at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro district thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella.

The Nerazzurri started the game well, in a high tempo putting Salernitana under pressure and it came as no surprise when Lautaro Martinez broke the deadlock after just 13 minutes.

Inter continued to dominate for the rest of the half and both could and should have doubled their lead, with Lautaro Martinez the main culprit in terms of failing to convert clear cut chances.

In the second half Inter started much slower and allowed Salernitana to work themselves back into the game slightly, creating a few chances before Nicolo Barella got on the end of a lovely Hakan Calhanoglu ball passing it calmly into the back of the net.

André Onana – 6,5: Calm afternoon for the Cameroonian international as Salernitana failed to trouble him but did what he needed to do without much fuss. Works and communicates well with his defence.

Milan Skriniar – 6,5: Just another day on the job kind of performance for the current Inter captain. Defensively solid, easily dispossessing Salernitana’s attackers when needed, didn’t provide much if anything in attack.

Stefan de Vrij – 6,5: Overall a calm and collected performance by the Dutchman who continues down the road of redemption. Got caught out once when ball played behind Inter’s back-line when team lost shape and balance.

Francesco Acerbi – 6,5: Defensively he continues to be solid, as expected. Doesn’t offer remotely what Bastoni does in attack but then again one would be foolish to expect that. Looks very settled in already.

Denzel Dumfries – 7: Was targeted physically by Salernitana, especially in the first half when he was brought down brutally time and time again but luckily he didn’t sustain any injuries.

Nicolo Barella – 8: Scored for the second game in a row and got an assist for Inter’s opening goal. Looking more and more in form although the feeling is he has much more to give in the tank. MOTM.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 7,5: There is life without Marceo Brozovic for Inter as the Turkish international has shown he is simply sensational as a deep-lying playmaker, regardless of if it’s Barcelona or Salernitana he is faced against.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6: Defensively nothing short of a liability at times when he switches off but more than made up for it in attack as he continues to demonstrate what a safe passer of the ball he is.

Federico Dimarco – 6: Continues to draw applause from the San Siro faithful for his now trademark diagonal cross balls but other than that the accuracy of his crosses were a bit off. Came off after suffering from cramps.

Lautaro Martinez – 7: Is in great form as he continues to play really well regardless of who the opposition is, however, should have scored at least twice against Salernitana where his finishing was simply careless.

Edin Dzeko – 6: Not a good day at the office for the Bosnian who is starting to look tired and burned out again having been played every three days out of necessity. Needs rest and should surely get it with Correa back.

Robin Gosens – 6: Came on for the cramping Dimarco in the 62nd minute and had a decent game barring a dreadfully mishit shot with his right foot that looked cartoonish.

Kristjan Asllani – 6: A decent substitution by the young Albanian midfielder after replacing Mkhitaryan in the 72nd minute. This is the kind of game he can build his confidence in and looked lively on the ball.

Joaquin Correa – 5,5: Replaced Dzeko in the 72nd minute and offered virtually nothing in attack except for drawing loud groans from the home crowd when stepping ON the ball like a child and thus ruining a counter attack.

Matteo Darmian – N/A: Brought on in the 89th minute for Denzel Dumfries and didn’t play long enough to be able to be rated.

Raoul Bellanova – N/A: Substituted on in the 89th minute for Hakan Calhanoglu and didn’t play long enough to be able to be rated.

Simone Inzaghi – 7: Currently in form and on a roll as he’s getting pretty much everything right currently from pre-match tactical set-up to read of the game and his much criticized in game management and substitutions.

Juan Luca Sacchi – 6: Drew jeers and whistles from the home crowd but wasn’t that bad in all honesty. Held a reasonably consistent level and got the few major calls right.

Inter – 6,5: Just the kind of no drama and no heart-attack inducing day at the office performance the over 75,000 spectators at the San Siro expected albeit failing to capitalize on the number of high quality chances created.
