Salernitana coach Davide Nicola feels that Inter-owned defender Lorenzo Pirola has a lot of potential but has to keep learning and improving.

Speaking in a press conference after the Granata lost to Inter, as reported by L’Interista, Nicola stressed the need for the 20-year-old to be humble and keep up his growth.

Pirola put in a decent match at the back against his parent club despite the fact that the Nerazzurri won 2-0.

The young defender has not had a completely straightforward path to where he is now, as an impressive spell in Serie B with Monza was interrupted by some injury struggles.

Pirola has been given the chance to prove himself in the top flight with Salernitana, who also have the option to make his loan permanent.

In coach Nicola’s view, the 20-year-old has quality, but also has to keep growing into being a Serie A-level player.

“He’s started only his second ever match for us,” he noted, “he wasn’t born knowing everything, and certain mistakes must be accepted.”

“He has to have the desire to keep learning,” he added.
