Former Inter, Parma, and Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey feels that Andre Onana is the player to stick with over Samir Handanovic.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, Frey suggested that right now Onana is the keeper who has greater desire and room to grow, and that it would not be helpful to continue alternating between two keepers.

Onana made his fourth consecutive start across all competitions in Inter’s Serie A win over Salernitana yesterday.

This suggests that the 26-year-old could now have the faith of coach Simone Inzaghi above Handanovic.

However, captain Handanovic will remain at the club at least until the end of the current season, and so there is always a possibility that he could retain his place.

In the view of Frey, however, it’s Onana’s time to be given the starting place once and for all.

“Handanovic has had a great run with Inter, but he’s getting on in years,” he said.

“Onana is hungry, he wants to prove himself.”

“Sometimes too much, like when he’s come too far out of his goal a couple of times, but I’d stick with Andre,” he continued.

“Otherwise they’re risking the kind of problems caused by a Navas-Donnarumma style alternation.”
