Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that striker Lautaro Martinez is a player who the club can build success in the future around.
Speaking to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, the Nerazzurri President spoke highly of his fellow Argentine, and also made clear that the ambition of the club is to mature and improve on the pitch.
Martinez has never had a shortage of transfer interest from other top clubs across Europe.
However, the 25-year-old has always seemed to respond to these by reaffirming his desire to remain at Inter.
Martinez signed a significant contract extension at Inter last fall, and has only taken it from there.
The Argentine has grown not just in terms of his performances on the pitch, but also in terms of his leadership in the locker room.
In the second half of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo last weekend, Martinez wore the captain’s armband, yet another testament to his leadership qualities and to the fact that he is becoming a real symbol of this Inter team.
When it was noted to Zanetti that Martinez has equalled the goalscoring record in Serie A of former Inter striker Diego Milito, he replied that “My impression is that he has enjoyed remarkable growth, each season he has grown even more.”
“Today he’s an important point of reference for our club and also for Argentina,” he continued.
“He has reached a level of maturity that allows him to put in these top performances, and I hope that he can keep going in that direction,” Zanetti said of Martinez.
Zanetti also spoke about the newly-announced partnership between Inter and surfing company Bradley Surfboards.
“It’s a partnership that can create a lot of enthusiasm, it’s a growing new sport that we’re linking up with and that’s important.”
“This is just a further testament that Inter want to grow and expand our reach 360 degrees.”
The Nerazzurri Vice-President noted the connection between Inter and athletes in other sports, such as Formula One driver Valentino Rossi and surfer Leonardo Fioravanti.
“We have athletes across many other sports who represent our colours,” he noted, “this is important because they can transmit the values of our club all across the world.”
