With goalscoring becoming more of a feature in his game, Inter’s Nicolo Barella has taken a step towards becoming a complete midfielder.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who praise the 25-year-old for rounding out his game by finding more consistent routes to goal.
Barella has never been incapable of scoring goals, but when he has gotten on target it has usually been from range rather than because he consistently works to get on the end of high-quality scoring chances.
However, his virtually identical runs, controls, and finishes against Barcelona and Salernitana recently are the kinds of actions that, if Barella constantly looks for them, could result in goals from the 25-year-old becoming a more regular occurrence.
The former Cagliari midfielder is already a fairly reliable source of assists, whilst his defensive work and influence in buildup are always important to the team in the midfield battle.
If goals had been one aspect that had largely been missing for Barella so far, this may not be the case for much longer.
