The performances of midfielder Nicolo Barella tend to be a barometer for how Inter are doing as a team.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who suggest that the 25-year-old’s form usually tracks with that of the Nerazzurri as a whole.
Barella is a player who likes to be involved in everything that Inter are doing on the pitch.
When the former Cagliari midfielder plays well he does everything from defending and building attacks to getting into the final third to score and assist goals.
When Barella is out of form, however, he lacks influence on matches.
In the early weeks of the current season, the 25-year-old huffed and puffed but never really put his stamp on the midfield battle, and this was like the entire team’s form in miniature.
By contrast, in recent matches Barella has been back to his best, and this has coincided with a string of good performances and results.
