Inter CEO Beppe Marotta feels that Inter cannot think that they’re back on track just because a few recent results have gone their way.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN at the Gran Gala del Calcio, the Nerazzurri executive cautioned against complacency following recent results in Serie A and the Champions League, and also spoke about owners Suning and the Zhang family.
Inter have secured some vital results over the past couple weeks to improve their fortunes after a miserable start to the campaign.
Four points against Barcelona in the Champions League and consecutive victories over Sassuolo and Salernitana in the league have had a big positive effect on the mood around the team.
However, as Marotta made clear, it is nowhere near time to start thinking that all the problems have been fixed and everything should be straightforward from here on out.
“We can’t be satisfied with a few wins over the past couple weeks,” Marotta said, “we must put aside the bad period, we got put into a negative situation by an invisible handicap we didn’t realize we had placed on us.”
“The team confronted each other in the locker room,” he continued, “professionalism and the ability of the coach have brought everything together and brought back the team that we saw last season.”
And of the future of the Nerazzurri ownership amid rumours of Suning putting the club up for sale, Marotta said “That’s a situation above my pay grade.”
“I can say that the Zhang family have always responded to the financial requirements of the club, we’ve had almost €700 million euros invested in the club to demonstrate their financial commitment.”
