Legendary former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini feels that Inter are still very much in the Serie A title race.

Speaking to the media at the Gran Gala dal Calcio, as reported by FCInterNews, the former Rossoneri midfielder argued that Inter’s squad makes them contenders even though they’re currently a ways back in the table.

Inter have given themselves some ground to make up in the Serie A table with their poor start to the campaign.

Back-to-back victories against Sassuolo and Salernitana suggest that the recovery is underway, but the Nerazzurri have some catching up to do to teams like Napoli, Atalanta, and AC Milan.

However, the Nerazzurri went into the season among the favourites for the title, and there is a reason for this.

As Albertini points out, the players that Inter have make them formidable in a Scudetto context even if their early matches were not terribly convincing and put them at a disadvantage.

“It’s still too early to say much,” he said. “That’s an obvious point to make, but it’s true.”

Albertini added that “I certainly wouldn’t rule out Inter, because on paper they have an extraordinary squad.”
