Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is very eager to have his first-choice midfield options all available, even though the midfield has been functioning well without Marcelo Brozovic.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri coach still sees the trio of Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella as the absolute best midfield unit for the team.
Inter have been coping better than many had expected without Brozovic.
The Croat’s injury during the September international break had been a major cause for concern given that last season the Nerazzurri’s worst performances tended to come in the few matches that he was not available.
However, Inzaghi has repurposed Calhanoglu in the 29-year-old’s absence, and the Turk has looked like more than a stopgap solution at the base of midfield.
In the coach’s mind, however, this does not mean that there’s any chance of Calhanoglu keeping a fit Brozovic out of the team.
Once Brozovic is back, Inzaghi expects to move Calhanoglu back to his mezzala position, and rely on Brozovic at the base of midfield.
