Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is targeting peak physical condition for massive Serie A matches against Juventus and Atalanta next month.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Belgian is likely to be in the squad to face Fiorentina on Saturday, but that it is next month’s matches where he is hoping to be at his absolute best.
Lukaku is back in full training today, and should already be back in the squad for Inter’s trip to Tuscany on Saturday.
However, the 29-year-old will not necessarily be immediately at his best.
It will take a couple weeks for Lukaku to really find his physical best and match rhythm.
Accordingly the Belgian should likely be gradually reintroduced to the team, with many opportunities to play in the packed fixture list leading into the World Cup.
Among the most significant matches on the Nerazzurri’s calendar before the lengthy World Cup break are Serie A matches against major rivals Juventus and Atalanta, the latter their final match before the World Cup.
These are the matches that Lukaku is hoping coincide with his own best fitness.
