Italian journalist Giancarlo Padovan feels that Inter are still in the race for the Serie A title.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Napoli Centrale, Padovan gave the view that, even though the Nerazzurri are a ways back in the table they’re still in the hunt, whilst he praised coach Simone Inzaghi for the handling of the midfield situation.

Eight points is a significant gap for Inter to have to make up on Napoli at the top of the Serie A table.

On this basis, it would be hard to name the Nerazzurri as title favourites.

However, as Padovan points out, it would be difficult to rule out the Nerazzurri entirely.

A recent turnaround in form is testament to the quality of the squad, and also to their ability to operate as a cohesive team in spite of adversity.

The way that Hakan Calhanoglu has filled in for Marcelo Brozovic in particular has shown the versatility and adaptability of this Inter team.

Asked if he considers Inter out of the running for the title, Padovan replied “In my opinion, no.”

“I’d put the Milan teams among the serious candidates for the Scudetto, I still have the view that the Nerazzurri, especially as they still have Lukaku to come back.”

“Inzaghi has done very well to put Calhanoglu in place of Brozovic,” he added, “who they’ve hardly missed.”
