Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti believes that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi can seriously try to get the Nerazzurri back into the Serie A title race.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Sconcerti suggested that Inter can still dream of the title unlike Juventus, and emphasized the returns from injury of Romelu Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic as factors.

Inter are eight points back from Napoli after ten matches played in Serie A.

This is certainly a significant gap with more than a quarter of the matches come and gone, but hardly insurmountable.

What is clear, however, is that the Nerazzurri will have to be better and, most of all, more consistent than they have been over those ten matches for the rest of the season if they’re to have any hope.

In Sconcerti’s view, however, there is reason to think that they can do just that, particularly with the players that the Nerazzurri have coming back.

“Inzaghi can try for what Allegri can’t, a comeback in the league,” he writes.

“Inter have technical level that I do not see in Juve.”

“Their defensive problems have come from the physical condition and form of Brozovic and Barella, and also from the concentration of Dumfries, who in the end must play as more of a full-back.”

Sconcerti argues that “Inter have excellent defenders, and look like a very concrete team between defense and midfield.”

“Calhanoglu is a good solution for the team, but he’s like a sweatshirt on a cool evening,” he suggests.

“When real winter arrives, you need the old coat,” Sconcerti notes. “With the returns of Lukaku and Brozovic, Inter can get the five or six wins that should put them right back in the running.”
