Inter striker Edin Dzeko is expected to be left on the bench for the Serie A match against Fiorentina this evening, as he rests ahead of midweek Champions League commitments.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Roma striker will be given the opportunity to recuperate before Inter’s crucial match against Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday.

That game could secure the Nerazzurri’s passage into the knockout stages of the Champions League and bring in €9.6 million of prize money from UEFA, and so it is seen as the priority over Fiorentina.

Dzeko is considered more reliable to coach Simone Inzaghi than Joaquin Correa, who will start instead against the Viola, and the Bosnian will partner Lautaro Martinez in midweek.

With Romelu Lukaku still working his way back to fitness, Inzaghi does not want to risk Dzeko after the 37-year-old played against Salernitana last weekend.

Meanwhile, in addition to the prize money for Champions League qualification, Inter can expect to bring in an extra €600,000 from the UEFA pool, and €6-7m in gate receipts from the home knockout tie.
