Former Inter defender Giuseppe Bergomi believes that Hakan Calhanoglu can make the difference in today’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere Fiorentino, Bergomi admitted that the pressure was on Inter and that the atmosphere at the Stadio Artemio Franchi would make their task all the more difficult.

However, he suggested that the match would be won or lost on the flanks, with Inter seeking victory by using their wing-backs effectively against the Viola.

“For Inter, I’d say Calhanoglu can be decisive, because not only does he provide assists, he also recovers balls and gives balance to the team,” Bergomi argued.

“As for Fiorentina, I’d say (Sofyan) Amrabat, who I like a lot because he is dynamic and it will not be easy for the Inter players to pick him up. The match will be decided in midfield.

“In my opinion it will be a balanced game and the wings could make the difference,” he continued.

“If Fiorentina manage to contain Inter’s wings then they can also create superiority in the middle of the pitch.

“The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, must try to improve in one-on-one situations, so as not to get into trouble.

“I think this will be a game in which there will be a subtle balance on the pitch,” Bergomi suggested.

After a good start to the season, Fiorentina have struggled for form and for goals, with only bottom club Sampdoria netting fewer than the eight registered by the Viola.

Despite this, Bergomi felt that it was only a matter of time before Fiorentina found their rhythm in attack again.

“Fiorentina, always play excellent football against the big teams and are a possession team that develops play, with clear ideas and courage, but which at the moment are struggling to realise this,” he noted.

“Right now, partly due to some injuries, they are struggling to find the way to the goal, but I am convinced that if a team creates chances then sooner or later the results will come.”
