Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was delighted with the spirit shown by his team as they snatched a 4-3 win over Fiorentina in the dying moments.

The Nerazzurri secured all three points at the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday as Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his first goal for the club deep into stoppage time, after Inter had squandered 2-0 and 3-2 leads in the match.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle, as reported by FCInterNews.it, Inzaghi argued that the determination to find a winner showed the great resolve within his squad.

“We were pegged back twice, but the team has always believed in the win,” the former Lazio coach claimed.

“It’s a very important victory for our conviction, beyond the three points.

“We were in control in the first part, then we lost some distance after it went to 2-1, but we believed in it and those who came off bench gave a great signal.

“We were in control, at 2-0 and we played very well, but once they scored we got nervous and it’s not good, we had to keep doing what we were doing, reacting and believing in it until the end.”

Inzaghi chose Joaquin Correa to partner Lautaro Martinez in attack, and whilst the latter impressed with a brace, the former failed to trouble the scoreboard.

Despite this, the coach leapt to the defence of both Argentine forwards and felt that Correa was still adapting after injuries.

“I’ve never been worried about Lautaro when he wasn’t scoring, for the team and in training he always does everything he has to.

“Correa is a player of the highest quality, penalised by injuries.

“Tonight he did very well, in the service of the team, and it is normal that he needs consistency. He always played at Lazio, and here at Inter he is different, but he can only grow.”

Inter are set to welcome back injured pair Romelu Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic, and Inzaghi felt that their return could make a big impact on the team.

“Of course, we can’t wait. I’ve never had them in this tour-de-force.

“The two of them, and (Roberto) Gagliardini are back. We have young lads, but playing here or in Barcelona is not easy and we are waiting for these to come back, as that will help us a lot.”
