Legendary former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi believes Inter deserved their dramatic last gasp winner last night away to Fiorentina but believes that the Nerazzurri still lack winning mentality.
Sacchi underlined these points in an exclusive interview in today’s print edition of Milan based Gazzetta dello Sport when analyzing yesterday night’s Serie A clash at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
“In Florence, ran away quickly like a leopard to a two goal lead, then hid away and suffered a comeback by the Viola” Sacchi began.
“However, Inzaghi’s squad has power, character, notable technical quality and in the end, went home with a win that allows them to relaunch up the table.
The former Rossoneri coach then touched briefly on the controversial episodes in the game, believing that Inter deserved their win but that they are still lacking that winning menatlity.
“There was no lack of emotions in Florence, but it has to be said immediately that Inter didn’t steal anything even if the winning 4-3 goal came in added time.
“It seems to me that Simone Inzaghi’s team are doing well physically and they have players in excellent form like Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella.
“Probably, they still lack that winning mentality which will bring Inter to the point where they dominate the pitch for the entire duration of the match.”
Inter ended up defeating Fiorentina 4-3 thanks to Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the dying seconds of the game, in what was a thrilling match, where Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez in particular shined for the visitors
With the win in Florence the Nerazzurri have now won their three last Serie A matches and are slowly but surely moving towards the top of the Serie A table.
Inter lay currently in 7th spot in the Serie A table with 21 points, some five points behind AC Milan and Napoli but where the Partenopei have at the moment of publication played a game less, as they travel to Rome for a clash with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico tonight.
