Midfielder Nicolo Barella and striker Lautaro Martinez have been the players driving Inter’s return to form and they’ll hope that they can keep pushing the team forward against Viktoria Plzen.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who note that with each scoring in three successive matches, the pair will be hoping that they can keep up the momentum.
Inter had needed inspiration from somewhere in the early stages of the campaign.
With Martinez having gone eight Inter matches without a goal and Barella having drifted in and out of matches, the pair were undoubtedly among the guilty parties for the Nerazzurri’s indifferent early form.
However, each of the two have found another gear over the last couple of matches.
Against Barcelona in the Champions League, both Barella and Martinez showed their workrate on both sides of the ball as well as quality in the final third to power the team to a famous 3-3 draw.
Just as importantly, the duo followed up their heroics in the Camp Nou with important goals against Salernitana and Fiorentina.
Now, a match against Viktoria Plzen in which the Nerazzurri can secure their place in the Champions League knockouts with a win looms.
Barella and Martinez will be hoping that they can keep up with their impressive form to help the team take a huge step in the context of their season.
