An Inter fan was physically assaulted by a group of Fiorentina fans in the tense aftermath of the Nerazzurri’s late winner on Saturday evening.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that video has emerged showing the scenes as the Inter supporter got attacked not long after Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored in stoppage time.
An Inter fan wearing a Nerazzurri kit was in the home section where he started taunting the Viola supporters after Lautaro Martinez’s penalty made the scoreline 3-2.
As the tensions ratcheted up on the pitch in the dramatic Serie A match, things started boiling over towards the end of the match in the stands.
The Inter fan who was in the Fiorentina end was encouraged to leave as Viola supporters shouted insults at him, but declined.
In the final minutes of the match, Nerazzurri midfielder Mkhitaryan scored to give his team the 4-3 victory.
This proved to be the flashpoint for the Inter fan who had been in the home end to be physically assaulted by some Fiorentina supporters.
Authorities are now investigating the incident.
