Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that the team have never lost their faith in themselves in the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 33-year-old noted that the Nerazzurri had their chances written off by many given the difficulties of their group, but that the team never stopped believing.

Inter got what was widely considered to be the “group of death” in the Champions League draw, considering the presence of heavy hitters Bayern Munich and Barcelona in their group.

An opening day defeat at the hands of Bayern made things even more difficult.

However, in the subsequent matches the Nerazzurri have beaten Viktoria Plzen and Barcelona and then gotten a vital draw away to the Blaugranas.

Now, another win against Plzen would secure a spot in the knockouts.

“We haven’t made it there yet,” Mkhitaryan was keen to stress.

“At the start no one believed in us, but we always believed in ourselves,” he continued.

The Armenian stated that “We can achieve our goals and tomorrow will be the most important match of the group, we have to be perfect in it.”

Of his experience at Inter, Mkhitaryan stated that “I’m doing very well here, I have to say thanks to my teammates who’ve helped me from day one.”

“I’m not at the level I want yet,” he added, “I have to work to be at the level everyone knows I can be, I can still do better.”

And of Saturday’s win over Fiorentina, the midfielder said that “In Fiorentina we knew we had to win, this is Inter.”

“Despite the goal that we conceded in the 90th minute, we believed in the win, we wanted to win because it was an important match.”
