Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that the team are still not where they want to be in the context of their season.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of tomorrow evening’s Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen, as reported by FCInterNews, the 33-year-old stressed that tomorrow’s match will be an opportunity to get closer to where the team want to be.

Inter have recovered significantly from their poor early season form in recent matches.

However, there is still significant ground to be made up in the Serie A table, and also work to be done in the Champions League.

If the Nerazzurri can manage to beat Plzen tomorrow, they will secure a spot in the Champions League knockouts for the second season in a row.

This would send an important signal, although for Mkhtiaryan, the work is far from done.

“We want to go as far as possible,” the midfielder said, “there’s still room for improvement because it is not yet the Inter we want to see.”

“We have to work more as an entire team, there is great potential and we’re not yet satisfied with what we’ve shown.”

Asked about the team’s ability to react to conceding compared to last season, the Armenian replied that “I’ve only been at Inter for four months, I don’t know how it was before.”

“I can just say that we’ve spoken to each other and we understood that we have to fight until the end.”

“No matter what happens during the match, there are 95 minutes that we have to work in,” he noted.

“That’s what happened in Florence,” he continued, “after the goal we conceded for 3-3 we didn’t give up or let our heads drop.”

“We approached it like it was the match of our life, I gambled on a run after Dzeko won the ball knowing Barella could get it to me, and we were rewarded,” he explained.

Of the returning Romelu Lukaku, Mkhitaryan said that “He’s a very important player for us, we’re waiting to have him back as with Brozovic.”

“We need everyone available,” the midfielder said, “there aren’t just the eleven starting players.”

“I hope that he will give us something more with his attitude,” he said of Lukaku, “he’s a player with a great desire and hunger to score goals and win.”

Of the mistakes to avoid in tomorrow’s match, Mkhitaryan said that “The risks are always there, the only thing we have to do is play our game.”

“There are no easy matches, each one can hide difficulties.”

“We want to win and reach the next round,” the midfielder said.

Of midfielder Kristjan Asllani’s relative lack of playing time, Mkhitaryan said that “The coach has found the solution without Brozovc, we all try to help.”

“Asllani has great potential, in my view he has a great desire to lean and improve,” he added.

“We help him out as well, because we know that right now we need to get the best out of everyone,” he said of the Albanian.

Of the team’s start to the season and subsequent recovery, Mkhtiaryan said that “All teams have ups and downs, we started badly and now we’re riding high and we want to reach even higher.”

“Life is like that, now we’re finding our game,” he noted.

The Armenian reflected that “There’s no room for error, we want to win each match and avoid errors.”

“I feel very comfortable playing,” he said of his position, “no matter where that is.”

“I feel more comfortable closer to goal, but I also like playing as a midfielder because we know how to play as a team,” he noted.

“There’s no difference whether I’m playing alongside Brozovic or Calhanoglu, we all understand each other well as they’re great players.”
