Inter striker Lautaro Martinez had not meant to imply that the team are abandoning their Serie A title dreams with his remarks yesterday, but merely that they shouldn’t get ahead of themselves.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the club have clarified the Argentine’s intentions with his statement.
Yesterday when asked about whether the Nerazzurri’s goal is the Scudetto, Martinez bluntly replied that at the moment it is not.
The answer could come as quite a surprise given that Inter had started the season among the main favourites for the title.
Moreover, even after the Nerazzurri’s bad start to the season, they still only have a few points to make up and have been showing the form necessary to do so.
In actuality, however, Martinez had not meant to dismiss the Nerazzurri’s title challenge.
For the 25-year-old, the main thing is to not start thinking months into the future when the team have given themselves a lot of ground to make up in the short term.
Martinez’s aim is to focus on each match as an opportunity for Inter to claw their way back into the title race and then to see what happens.
