Inter captain Samir Handanovic has proved that he remains a leader for this Nerazzurri team despite the fact that he no longer looks to be the starter in goal.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the 37-year-old has proved himself in terms of the captaincy with how he has handled the transition of Andre Onana into his starting spot.

Handanovic began the season as Inter’s starter in goal, but after a couple months it looks to be Onana who is already deemed to be ready to start taking over.

The Slovenian has done everything he can to support Onana, however.

The Cameroonian’s life has been made easier in the difficult transition to the high-pressure position in the Nerazzurri goal by the advice and support of his captain.

Handanovic has also had an important role in helping out other Inter players like Denzel Dumfries settle in through periods of difficulty.

The 37-year-old has never shown any lack of willingness to support his teammates in times of difficulty.

For the Gazzetta, the fact that Handanovic has continued doing this more than ever even when it has been with a player taking his starting spot shows that he remains the true captain as much as ever.
