Inter defender Francesco Acerbi looks to be ahead of Stefan de Vrij to start in defense in this evening’s Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the 34-year-old has overtaken de Vrij as the likeliest candidate to start in the centre of the back three in the group stage clash.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has a decision to make regarding who starts in the centre of the back three.

With Alessandro Bastoni starting on the left of the defense, Acerbi would either start in the middle or not at all.

Now, the coach is thinking more about starting the on-loan Lazio defender and then dropping de Vrij to the bench, rather than the other way around.

Inzaghi is aiming to put out his strongest possible eleven to ensure three points so that the Nerazzurri can secure a place in the Champions League knockout rounds.
