Inter are very close to making their contract extension to defender Milan Skriniar.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that an offer of a new deal worth €6.5 million net per season to the Slovakian is imminent, and that securing a place in the Champions League knockouts could be decisive.

Inter have not yet made their official offer of a new contract to Skriniar, whose current deal runs out at the end of June 2023.

However, doing so is an absolute priority for the Nerazzurri, and so the wait should not be much longer.

If Inter are to officially reach the Champions League round of sixteen in this evening’s group stage match against Viktoria Plzen, it could prove a decisive factor in negotiations.

The payment for participation in the knockout stages would equal around €15 million, whilst the gate receipts at the San Siro for the home leg of the round of sixteen would be expected to be around €5 million.

Therefore, it could be financially advantageous in talks with Skriniar and his representatives if the club already know that they will be in the round of sixteen.
