Inter striker Edin Dzeko has sealed the Nerrazzurri’s progression to the Champions League knockout stages with a brace for the second season in a row.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who highlight the parallel in the Bosnian’s contribution over each of the last two seasons.

Last season, Dzeko proved to be the Nerazzurri’s Champions League hero in their fifth group stage match, as his two goals were vital in a 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk that booked the team’s place in the knockouts.

This season, Inter found themselves in quite a similar situation.

Three points against Viktoria Plzen would be enough to reach the knockouts, and once again Dzeko proved to be vital to the team reaching this goal.

It was Henrikh Mkhitaryan who broke through with the opening goal, but after that it was Dzeko who once again rose to the occasion, putting the result beyond doubt with his brace.
